Sendai is the largest city in the Tohoku region of Japan. It is situated on Honshu Island. The city is divided into five districts, which are Aoba-ku, Izumi-ku, Miyagino-ku, Taihaku-ku and Wakabayashi-ku. Close to both the sea and the mountains, this is a comfortable and convenient city to live in. The area offers quite a bit of green space, including wide city streets that are lined with trees. The nickname for Sendai is ‘Forest City.’ The main shopping street in Sendai is for pedestrians only and is covered. It is one street that has two names, both Ch??-d?ri and Clis Road. In Sendai, the two most popular streets are Jozenji-Dori and Aoba-Dori. These streets are home to festivals and events, such as the Sendai Pageant of Starlight and the Jozenji Street Jazz Festival. Dining options in the area include Rikyu Ichibancho Ten, a Japanese restaurant that is open for lunch and dinner. This restaurant serves Sendai’s most famous dish- Gyutan or beef tongue, sliced thinly and served with pickled vegetables this is a real local delicacy.

Transport Information

The nearest major airport is Sendai Airport. This airport has international and domestic flights and is 16 km (9 miles) from the city centre. Another major airport is Yamagata Airport, which has domestic flights from Yamagata, Japan and is 61 km (37 miles) from Sendai. Public transportation is available via the JR East Sendai Station, which is the main transport hub for the city. The station is served by seven JR rail lines and is a major station on the T?hoku and Akita Shinkansen lines. An underground passage connects the station to the Sendai Subway.
