The town of Potters Bar is located in the Borough of Hertsmere, in the county of Hertfordshire. There is evidence of settlements in the area that date back to the 13th century. The area underwent urbanisation beginning in the mid 1800s, when the first railway was opened here. The Great Northern Railway enhanced connectivity to London, making Potters Bar one of the many commuter towns on the outskirts of the city. Potters Bar is a major junction on the Great North Road, which is a route that connects London to the north of England. The city of London can be reached in less than an hour via this road. Potters Bar railway station provides access to train services between York and London’s Kings Cross station. Various destinations within Hertforshire such as Hatfield, Stevenage and Letchworth can also be accessed through these train services. Junction 24 of the M25 serves Potters Bar, from where the A111 can be accessed, with onward connectivity to Cockfosters tube station on the London Underground network.
