Situated in the borough of Calderdale the town of Brighouse sits on the banks of the River Calder. Named after a building called Bridge House, which was located on the banks of the river, the town is largely residential and has a distinct rural appeal. The Brighouse Library is the biggest landmark in the area while Smith Art Gallery and St. James Church also attract a number of locals and tourists throughout the year. The Old Ship Inn is also a famous establishment known for being built from the wood of the HMS Donegal.

Transport Information

The town has a well connected road network for drivers, buses and coaches, with the A641 and A644 leading commuters out to Huddersfield and Dewsbury, respectively. The M62 motorway can be accessed with ease while the A58 to Leeds and A629 to Keighley also pass through the town. Brighouse railway station is the town’s main link to the Huddersfield Line and the Caldervale Line. Leeds Bradford International Airport is the town’s closest means of air travel.
