Washington Circle is a traffic circle in Washington, D.C., in the United States. Located in the Northwest quadrant of the city, the circle is intersected by 23rd Street, K Street, New Hampshire Avenue, and Pennsylvania Avenue NW. This traffic circle is situated in the Foggy Bottom and West End neighborhoods. This circle dates to 1856, and was the first traffic circle developed in the city.
Washington Circle is near the location of the Foggy Bottom campus of The George Washington University (GWU) and the George Washington University Hospital. It is located near the main Georgetown University campus, the Volta Bureau, and the embassies of France, Mongolia, Sweden, Thailand, and the Ukraine. This tavern was built in 1796 and is the oldest commercial structure in the city.
