The state of Oregon is located in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean, Washington State, California, Nevada, and Idaho. The capital of Oregon is Salem, and its largest city is Portland. Other notable cities are Eugene, Springfield, Bend, Medford, La Grande, and Pendleton. Oregon is a popular tourist destination for its rugged rocky coastline, dense forests, towering mountains, deep canyons, and southeastern desert.

Business Information

Oregon has a significant agricultural component to its economy. Crops produced in the state are grapes, hazelnuts, cherries, potatoes, apples, alfalfa, hops, and wheat. Oregon is the largest producer of hazelnuts in the nation. Oregon’s wine industry is significant, ranking third in the US with more than 300 wineries. The state is also known for the large number of breweries and Portland has more breweries than any other city in the world. Prominent companies with office space or other facilities in Oregon include Nike, Intel, Columbia Sportswear, Oregon Scientific, and Mentor Graphics.

Entertainment And Dining Out

The state of Oregon offers historic towns, small fishing villages, vibrant ski resorts, and vineyards that offer wine tasting. Nearly half the state is forested with spruce, fir, and hemlock. The Cascade Mountains divide Oregon from north to south, with most of the urban population located west of the mountains. Main tourist attractions include windsurfing on the Columbia River, skiing on Mount Hood, or exploring the Oregon Trail, Hell’s Canyon and Crater Lake National Park. Oregon’s cuisine is tied to the Pacific Northwest and reflects a noticeable Asian and Native American influence. Local ingredients include salmon, shellfish, freshwater trout, game meats, mushrooms, berries, small fruits, potatoes, and wild plants. The fish is often smoked or grilled on cedar planks. The famous brands Tillamook Cheese and Kettle Chips originated in Oregon.

Transport Information

The four largest commercial passenger airports in Oregon are Portland International Airport, Mahlon Sweet Field in Eugene, Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport, and Roberts Field in eastern Oregon. Eugene, Portland, and Salem have inner city public transportation systems, but to see most of the state you will need a car, which you can hire from one of the many dealerships.
