Officially the Arab Republic of Egypt, this country is mainly situated within North Africa. The Sinai Peninsula forms a land bridge to Southwest Asia. Egypt is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea, the Gaza Strip, Israel, the Red Sea, Sudan, and Libya. Egypt is one of the most populated countries in Africa and the Middle East. It is the 15th most populated in the world. Cairo is the country’s capital city.

Egypt’s economy is very diverse. It relies on tourism, agriculture, petroleum exports, industry, media, and services. Several million Egyptians work abroad, mainly in Europe, Saudi Arabia, and the Persian Gulf. Egypt’s most prominent multinational companies are the Orascom Group and Raya Contact Centre. There are many start-up IT companies selling outsourcing services to North America and Europe. These companies work with Microsoft, Oracle and other major corporations. Some of these Egyptian companies are the Xceed Contact Centre, Raya, E Group Connections, and C3. There are many options for shared office space in Egypt.

Entertainment And Dining Out

There are many things to see in Egypt, from museums and historical or religious landmarks, to its natural wonders. The Egyptian civilization offers hieroglyphs, temples, mummies, the pyramids, and many artefacts of its long history. Egypt also offers many modern coastal resorts that feature some of the best diving in the world. A great way to get a feel for the country is to spend time in any local Cafes or coffee shops. Cairo has a very diverse selection of these coffee houses that offer something for every taste and budget. Local coffee chains include, Coffee Roastery, Cilantro, Grand Cafe, and Costa Coffee. Egyptian cuisine is based on African, Middle Eastern, and Mediterranean traditions with a local emphasis dishes made with dates and olives combined with vegetables, meats and fresh fish. The country is known for its vibrantly flavourful selections. Two of Egypt’s most popular dishes are ful medames and koshari, made from spaghetti, macaroni, or sometimes rice, which is then cooked with pulses or beans, garlic, tomatoes, and then garnished with fried onions and herbs.

Transport Information

Egypt has several international airports. They include the Cairo International Airport which is the primary international entry point for the country. There is also Alexandria Nozha, and Luxor International Airport, among others. You can also access Egypt by ferry or car. Ferry services operate from Port Said and provide links to Cyprus and Jordan. There is also road access from Israel, Jordan and Libya. Within Egypt, most of the transport routes are centred on Cairo and largely follow the Nile. A long-distance rail line runs between Alexandria and Aswan, operated by the Egyptian National Railways. In Cairo, the Metro operates and has three lines in operation. Bus services run in most cities and towns with deluxe services connecting Cairo, Alexandria, Ismailia, Port Said and Luxor amongst others.
