Helsinki is the capital of Finland. Located on the historic border between Russia and Sweden, Helsinki has melded a character that reflects both countries and incorporates its own unique outlook. Although the Finnish capital is unmistakably Scandinavian, the architecture and the psyche of its inhabitants show the clear influence of the Russian continent. Helsinki is relatively small, yet is one of the more accessible European capitals. The tidy streets are packed with restaurants, bars and shops, projecting a cosmopolitan vibe when combined with all the theaters and museums scattered throughout the city. There is great public transportation in this small community, which means nothing is more than a short tram ride away from the centre.
