Edmonton is the capital of the province of Alberta, Canada. The city is towards the centre of the province and lies on the North Saskatchewan River. It is the north anchor of the Calgary–Edmonton Corridor. The population of Edmonton is above eight-hundred thousand inhabitants, making it the second largest in Alberta and the fifth largest municipality in Canada. Edmonton is the major economic and cultural centre of Alberta. Its major industries are oil and gas, it is known as the oil capital of Canada. The city is also known for its large-scale oil sands projects and diamond mining operations, as well as for its strong technological sector. Transport Information

Getting to the city is convenient, as it has its own airport - Edmonton International Airport - which is serviced by the Canadian airlines WestJet and Air Canada. Getting downtown from the airport is possible on the public transit bus or the direct airport shuttle. The city is approachable by car on the Trans-Canada Highway system, by buses operated by Greyhound, Red Arrow Motorcoach or Executive Express, and by trains run by VIA Rail. Besides driving, navigating around the city is possible by Taxi, the Edmonton Transit System buses, and Light Rail Transit System. Edmonton is also extremely bike friendly.
