Mesa is a located 20 miles east of Phoenix in the U.S. state of Arizona. This suburb is situated in Maricopa County in the East Valley section of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. Mesa is bordered by Tempe, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, Chandler, Gilbert, and Apache Junction. Mesa is the third-largest city in Arizona, following Phoenix and Tucson.

Entertainment And Dining Out

The Mesa Grande ruins are the sight of Hohokam structures that were occupied between AD 1100 and 1400 (Pueblo II - Pueblo IV Era). These ruins offer insight into the Hohokam civilization that used to inhabit the Salt River Valley. This civilization built an extensive system of water canals before they just vanished from the area. For a day of shopping, Mesa’s Fiesta Mall is anchored by Dillard’s, Macy’s, Sears, Best Buy, and Dick’s Sporting Goods. Located near the mall you will find additional shopping centers, many restaurants, other retail stores, and banks. Dining options in Mesa include Landmark Restaurant, Sourdough Pizza, il Vinaio, Blue Adobe Grille, and Rancho de Tia Rosa. Charleston’s Restaurant is a big favorite in the area and serves classic American cuisine at modest prices.

Transport Information

The nearest major airport to Mesa is Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. This airport has international and domestic flights from Phoenix, Arizona and is 13 miles from the city center. Another major airport in the area is the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, which is 18 miles from Mesa and offers domestic flights. This part of Arizona has access to Route 60, otherwise known as ‘Superstition highway’ which runs between Apache Junction and Phoenix. An alternative is also offered by the METRO Light Rail line in west Mesa.
